Like Riding A Bike

It all started 5 years ago. I walked into a J Crew store and there it was. In the middle of the new Crew Cuts section,  a kids table with crayons and a coloring book. Not an ordinary coloring book, one that made me giddy and happy, and truly exited.
A few weeks later, I got one for my kid, so that we could color together.  Coloring is ine of those things that you never outgrow. You walk into a restaurant and your kids get a pack of crayons and some coloring pages and instantly you are coloring with them. But with this one book,  its not just Disney Characters or Sponge Bob.  Its different, its for kids, but really its for anyone who loves colors and creativity.
From there I jumped to mandalas, and a few months ago I found adult coloring books. Adult coloring books? Turns out I am not the only one! I now have a few books to choose from. I traded in my kids crayon box for coloring pencils, and yes, I have coloring dates.
My friends come over and we sit, color,  and sip tea in perfect silence. Completely absorbed in a world of color and lines, its pure bliss. It's a skill you never outgrow, an undeniable joy that brings a smile to our face, just like riding a bike.

Comfort Food Through the Storm

8/28/2015

Around here, a tropical strom advisory requires a very specific type of preparation.  To most, it means stocking up on non perishables, batteries and water, cleaning gutters and even boarding up windows and doors.
To me and my close relatives it means kitchen prep. Yep, the best way to wait for the impending storm is to eat your way through it. The weather will be dark, stromy and windy, so even though its still summer, comfort food is required.
The best thing about this particular tomato plenta skillet is that it helped clean out the fridge, in case of a power outage that is the way to go.
This skillet is light enough to eat during the summer, and yet warm, flavorful and satisfying.  The tomatoes are soft and juicy while the biscuits are crunchy on the outside and great for soaking up all  of the tomato juicy goodness. Easy to prepare, ready in minutes, satisfying and light... it's  summer comfort at its best and worth turning on the oven. Just beacuse the oven was already on,  I made a batch a of brownies. What better way to wait for the rain to pass than with something baked, something warm, and something good.

So much to choose from! Will it be a peach, a white peach or a doughnut peach? Perhaps a sugar plum, or a nectarine? Maybe a pound of cherries, but which kind? Ohhh if I only had five more hands I would take some fresh kale, plenty of rainbow chard, watermelon radishes and golden baby beets, a hand full of pati pans and enough heirlooms tomatoes to fill up a basket.

Yes indeed. At least 5 more hands to take it all home!!

Fot the past five years, we have mastered the art of sipping good coffee and working our needles and hooks in perfect harmony. Every day we gather around our table, spread out the contents of our wip and wait for Cuca to ask... Who wants coffe?
Coffee is as much a part of PuntoReves as are yarn and a good pattern.
We sip it while we work at the shop and we even get together at local coffee shops around San Juan.
So, it's only fitting that we do the same while we are abroad, and I have!!
I've packed my wip and when it's too hot to crochet outside,  I've taken shelter inside with a good, even awesome cup of coffee. These are a few of my faves in NYC.
Oooh, and a little chocolate in Williamsburg,  because it's really that good!!!
