Meet Milly

Somewhere in between Ravelry, Facebook, and this blog, I met Milly a little while ago. Our love of yarn brought us together, and yes, the fact that she is Puerto Rican helped a whole lot. The one little tiny difference is....

... I love to crochet, and kind'a lack knitting skills, and she has dominates both the hook and the needles. She's the total package! Just look at a few of the works she's done.
Not only does her world stop when she has yarn running through her fingers, but she is
a dedicated teacher.
She loves teaching lace, socks, crochet and everything in between, I've even seen a picture or two
of little works of tatting lace. The most amazing thing is, she is bringing all her warm and wooly love and devotion to Punto Reves for a very special class. Next week Milly will be hosting Knitting After Dark and teaching us all about reading knitting graphics, circular needles, lace, and many more knowledgeable tid bits.
On September 5th, 2012 Milly will be teaching us how to make a pair of lace fingerless gloves.
All you need to do is call the shop and save your space!
We are very exited to Milly teach in our shop  and share all her knowledge, so be sure
to stop by a share the fun.

Yarn for your tablet

I am so exited about this post. First because we have some fresh new blood around the shop (and yes, she is young!!) , and second because she has brought some fresh and cute (and much needed) bright ideas.
Like this little project, a cover for your tablet. Its cute, fun, and easy to make.

With two little button holes to close the top of the cover, your table will be snug and protected.
I'm inspired!

Summer 2012 Tunic CAL

Now that we have both panels done, its time for seams, and then some beads.
Place your panels one over the other, making sure the sleeves and the bottom are aligned.
Now you'll need a tape measure and a few stitch markers.
Starting at the top-left end of the pieces, measure inwards, and place a marker, repeat starting at the top-right end of the piece, and place a marker. The space between the markers will be the neck opening. Using a blunt large eye needle with the leftover thread you can whipstitch the seams closed, or if you prefer, you can use a 2.5mm crochet hook, and two strands of clea 1000 to slipstitch the seams closed (as shown in the photo above). Remove all markers and hide the tails.
Now measure 4 inches inward from the bottom left corner of the sleeve and place a marker. Repeat with the right side. Because we are making one straight seam through the side of the sleeve  all the way down the armhole and to the bottom of the tunic, we are going to mark the length as well.
Measure 4 " from the bottom left corner of the tunic and place a marker, repeat with the right side. You can now seam the sides and sleeve in one. Starting at the bottom, leaving 4 inches open, use a whip stitch or a slip stitch to seam up the body of the tunic, when you reach the sleeve, simply keep stitching along the sleeve until you reach the next marker. Once again leaving a 4" stretch of crochet fabric without seams (as in the picture below, notice the open sleeves at the top of the image). Repeat on the remaining side, cut off the thread, hide tails, and get the beads ready!!

For the beads, I settles on small wood beads. The trick to crochet with beads is finding beads with a hole large enough to fir your thread/ yarn. Once you have chosen your beads, its time to thread them into the working thread/yarn.
In order to do so, you'll need a little dab of glue. I find regular white or gel glue to work just fine.

Place a small dab of glue at the tip of the thread.
Rub the thread between you fingers to coat the thread, at least one inch, so that the tip of the yarn will be stiff enough to easily thread the beads. Let the glue dry until its no longer sticky.
When the glue as dried, you should have a nice pointy edge.
When you are working with beads, you need to string all of your beads before you start to crochet. Take the time to calculate how many bead you'll need, and if your not sure, its always best to string more than you'll need.
Once you have all your beads, you can start to crochet.
To make the beaded crochet edge for this tunic, start with a single crochet,
skip 1 space and crochet 3dc into the next space,
slip 1 bead next to your hook, and make 3 dc
Skip 1 space, and sc into the next.
 Repeat all around the edge...

...and into the opening at the sides.
Block if needed with a little steam and a few tugs and pulls, wear, enjoy, and please
share pictures!!!

The need for Fall

Just a little roundup of textures, fits and warmth that my skin seems to be craving. Yes its still summer, and its hot outside, but I just can't wait for Fall. Boxy cuts, lacy sweaters, and a few ponchos... what to make next?

Welcome home

It's been a while since I posted about new yarn, but I think this beauty deserves its own post.
Its big, its round, and its fun.
It's got a little bit of everything inside, a little shine, a little warmth, a little flair, and whole lot of possibilities.
Welcome to Punto Reves Fezza Yarns!
